After some busy months (pnMeeting, NOC problems) the PostNuke Foundation is proud to annouce the release of PostNuke .8 RC2.

The release candidate is the current state of the SVN and contains compared to RC1 a lot of bug fixes, a rewritten and simplified categories module and an improved upgrade for users of PostNuke .764.

Downloads

There are 3 packages available:

The core pack contains only the bare system and no content modules. It's supposed to serve as the basis for a new site. So you only have to upload all the modules you personally need.

The value addons contain all the content modules from .7x in their latest version fit for .8. So if you need Quotes or FAQ for your site, this is the place to find them.

The upgrade pack contains everything you need to update an existing .764 site. It is the core pack and the value addons in one package. Please note: DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR LIVE SITE. This is still not a final release and is not supposed to be used in live enviroments. If you intend to upgrade your site with the final version you should test the upgrade with the RC2 and a local copy of your .764 site.

Please test!. The more you test now with the RC2 and the more bugs you report, the less trouble you will have with the final version.

Notice

The upgrade will only work for .764 sites. If your site is based on an older version this is the time to start your upgrade. If you have any questions about the update, visit the forums.

There will be no major changes from RC2 to the final release. The RC is bug fix only. If you intend to write modules, themes ASO for PostNuke .8 you can start working with this RC.

Thanks a lot for your work.

I'm just a simple user of 0.7 and rediscover the joy of PN these days since I try Pagesetter.

I'm really looking for $NewName to get release with this new content module and plan to start a new test site with this release.

Thanks for again!

It's a great new.

Thanks a lot.

We are willing to use it and we wonder if it is already the right time to translate it to catalan.

FYI: The upgrade docs never actually tell you to upload the new files. It seems pretty obvious (and somewhat implied) that you would upload at the end of step 2, but it never comes right out and says it.

During execution of the upgrade.php script, I get this message:

Before proceeding please ensure that the following lines exist in config.php

* $pnconfig['dbtabletype'] = 'MyISAM';

* $pnconfig['pconnect'] = '0';

* $pnconfig['temp'] = 'pnTemp';

* $pndebug['pagerendertime'] = 0;

Shouldn't these be:

* $PNConfig['System']['tabletype'] = 'myisam';

* $PNConfig['DBInfo']['default']['pconnect'] = 0;

* $PNConfig['System']['temp'] = 'pnTemp';

* $PNConfig['Debug']['pagerendertime'] = 0;

???

Is it safe to use it on a live site yet?

Thank you so much! As I work on upgrading my site(with a combined retooling of several parts and a new theme) I will be working on ideas of how ScoutSite will utilize all of the parts of PN.

BTW, is there a Changelog? Just to get an idea of what has changed from RC1-RC2.

Easy answer.
Unless you are a core developer: NO!!!

@Bad_Dude: What in the sentence "This is still not a final release and is not supposed to be used in live enviroments." don't you understand? icon_biggrin

@Wendell: Thanks for your findings - can you put that into the tracker so it doesn't get lost?

@kaffeeringe.de

Thanks for the link, but this isn't helping a lot. The italian community is almost death... I'll try to ask information there but I'm not so trustful.

kaffeeringe.de's Avatar

18. kaffeeringe.de wrote on Dec 14, 2007 at 02:46 PM

Then be the Italian community yourself. If there's nobody else, you are the maintainer of the translations.

Arthens's Avatar

19. Arthens wrote on Dec 14, 2007 at 03:34 PM

Well, the plan was to open an italian support site for PostNuke, but take also the translation project would need a lot of time (and also a really good english knowledge).
I'll think about it if there'll be nobody who could do it.

I'm working on the French translation but some files in the Value addons pack (pnversion) have not the right structure to allow it (as described in the blank module). Where can I send my modifications in order to correct this problem ?

@xbee: Bug-Tracker? Or is it not a bug?
@mcp_dk: Could be a conflict with our spam protection. All links work for me. Can you access the NOC?

Thanks for your testing. Please tell us, if anything changes. BadBehavioiur blocks IPs that are on a blacklist of spammers. Either there's a problem with these lists or Denmark is the home of spam. icon_biggrin

I opened a thread for these NOC issues. Maybe we should discuss this there and use the comments only for comments about the RC2

@mcp_dk: if using firefox can you try to change the browser's UA via User Agent Switcher? it seems that modsecurity has a false positive for the 'da' locale...

@larsneo

Yes i use Firefox (in Ubuntu 7.10)

Thanks that did the trick. I switched to IE7 and now it works.

I will pass the info on to the danish community as well.

Is there a description anywhere on how to make a clone of a PN install to test an update? I would like to test it on a copy of my live DB before I upgrade my live site.
Bad_Dude's Avatar

@ Ferretlover. Well, get a backup of your live site and make a test directory and a database from that then download the RC2 release and proceed with the upgrade.

1. Set up xampp or some other Apache/MySQL enviroment
2. copy all files from your ftp to the local webroot
3. backup your DB and insert the backup to the local dbms
4. adjust the config.php to fit your local enviroment

Did I forget anything?
