PagEd - v1.00RC

Author: Oivind Skau

PostNuke Version: PostNuke adam_baum .800

Category: Content

pnAPI Compliancy: No

pnRender Compliancy: No

Description:

PagEd is a content management module for PostNuke. Content with images can be created, sorted, time programmed, placed on menus and permission restricted. We are now close to defining our new version 1.00 as our official product, and are happy to invite you to test it.

Amongst new features in v. 1.00 we would like to mention:
- A workflow system where content can be flagged as Work in progress, Awaiting moderation (for non-admins) and Public.
- A Media files manager offering upload, topic placement/sorting and download of sound, film, PDF and Office file types. File names included in articles will automatically be converted to download links.
- Automatic display of flash content, if filename is added as illustration.
- "Inline" editing: One-click access from front page/subpages/blocks to content edit panels.
- Search engine optimization: User defineable meta-keywords for every created page, as well as display of page title in browser header bar. A short-urls rewrite addon pack can be found at our web site.
- Support for cooperation with Photoshare/Menalto Gallery (images to articles), EZComments/dpComments (article commenting) and XFPDF (click to generate PDF from displayed articles).
- Manual as well as automatic backup of database to server or mail address.
- A system check page with an overview of your installation, as well as security recommendations based on the PN security advisories, and an RSS news feed from the Paged web site. The System Checker also allows you to oneclick-"defragment" often used tables.
- An appealing and user-friendly interface with support for 4-color user defineable site palette integration.

In addition, a smaller, but hopefully useful extra is "obfuscation" of email addresses, making it very hard for spam spiders to even start doing their work, should you chose to include an email address in a text.

Finally, we have made development and troubleshooting easier by adding an option to switch on database query output and save error logs to server.

While listing new advantages of using PagEd, we should mention a couple of things that Paged is not:
- Fully PnAPI compliant
- Template-supporting
- Able to define tailor-made publication types/fields (like Pagesetter)

These issues are on the work list, and future versions will always upgrade current packs effortlessly. Given shortcomings in terms of API support, Paged still runs equally well under older and newer versions of PostNuke.

PagEd 1.00 is currently still a release candidate. Backup of database before install/upgrade is recommended.

While PagEd does some nice things, I still cant use it until it supports pnRender templating. Non pnRendered modules are just to much of a nightmare to customize. Cant wait for a pnRendered version!
