Complete install guide for PN on own Linux server
 Top

  • I am looking for a complete guide for the installation of PN. I have my own server and want to know all the depencies. I plan to use Apace as the webserver, but need to know all the modules that I need to load, what database I need to load, etc, etc. I only seem to be able to find guides on how to setup PN on servers/hosting companies that have already done all the background work for you. Any help for this newbie would be appreciated.
  • Well, I'm just a Post Nuke user who has both made posts of inquiry here before and try to return the favors by posting things of help to others when I can.

Having said that, in general the items you will need on your own server are Apache web server, MySQL database, and the PHP language. Those are all components that Post Nuke makes use of and all of those components need to be on your server and working before you attempt to install Post Nuke itself.

What you might want to look at is a bundle that has all three products done up in one install routine. You can read more about that here. I personally have not used this particular bundle before but it seems a rather cool way to do an easy install of the base components.

If you would prefer to obtain and install the products separately then you would want to use Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There is documentation on each site and with each product on how to install it for various operating systems. If obtaining the binary form of the product then make sure you select the binary for your operating system.

There are also various support forums and resources for the three products. I can't officially make this statement, but the forums here have been primarily used to help with Post Nuke installation itself and issues surrounding it. The help with installing the other components before Post Nuke is somewhat more than can be done here in this location.

I hope this information has been of help to you and gives you a place to start working from. When you have things ready to install Post Nuke itself and begin working with it, this set of articles might help you out. The actual install of Post Nuke I try to document from both the perspective of being installed on a hosted site or on a local site. Once the actual installation is done, the configuration and usage of Post Nuke is really the same no matter what type of install has been done. I am working on more articles to have additional series to cover things this set doesn't, such as security and the like, but I do not have those ready for release at this time.
