Installation, Configuration, & Upgrades  ::
Moving to New Host - installation / restoring DB
 Top

  • I recently picked up the installation guide for a new installation of PostNuke. I plan to sign up with a new host, install PN, then install PNphpBB2, then restore the database from my current install of PN. I also need to upload images / graphics / avatars from old directory to new install location.

    Are there any issues I need to be aware of or things I need to do to make this transition? Has anyone done this before and can offer some guidelines? Maybe a specific order of doing things...?

    Thanks,

    Tim
  • Much as I dislike all this typing, here goes:

    1. Download complete file structure from existing host
    2. Download database backup from existing host
    3. Upload file structure
    4. Create new database and upload old backup to it
    5. Edit config.php in new site, place new DB name DB password and DB username in config file, and set $encoded to 0
    6. Test the site, checking connection works
    7. If it does, re encode values with PostNuke Swiss Army Knife (see http://downloads.postnuke.com)
    8. If it doesnt, recheck what you wrote in config.php

  • Thanks very much. I have to move 8 domains and associated sites, and one is running PN and has 200+ members. I appreciate your taking the time to give me the info.
