Session initialisation failed
 Top

  • My web host has an auto installer for post nuke, which involves clicking a link and answering a few questions. My index page comes up great, but any link on the main page, or attempting to login gives me a while screen that says "Session initialisation failed". This happened to my buddy too, so he went back to regular nuke. I'm a bit more tenacious, however. Can anyone give me an idea what is going on? The version I am using is Phoenix release 0.726.

    Thanks in advance!
  • Err... Saying "my web host has an auto installer" then describing how it failed makes me wonder if you have asked your web host about this?

Normally I would be recommend that you use a tool like phpMyAdmin to drop the PostNuke sessions table then restore it from an older backup - but since this is a new installation I'm kind of at a loss other than to say you might simply try dropping the current installation and database completely then do a new "install" from your host's widget... If that fails again then you will *have* to get hold of them.

Hope this helps, but somehow I doubt it will.

  • Thanks Dave, it still didn't work. They have a disclaimer that they don't support, to come to this board. :)

I did find phpMyAdmin, and found a table called nuke-session-info. Is this the sessions table? If not, I don't have one that just says sessions. The PHP info on the sessions-info table looks like this:

Field Type Attributes Null Default Extra
    pn_sessid varchar(32) No
    pn_ipaddr varchar(20) No
    pn_firstused int(11) No 0
    pn_lastused int(11) No 0
    pn_uid int(11) No 0
    pn_vars blob BINARY Yes NULL

    Indexes :
    Keyname Type Cardinality Action Field
    PRIMARY PRIMARY 2 pn_sessid

    Row Statistic : Statements Value
    Format dynamic
    Rows 2
    Row length ø 80
    Row size ø 1,104 Bytes

I hope this is of some use.
  • Last I checked, Fantastico's PostNuke version was out of date anyway. I use it myself, but don't let any of my clients have it because I don't trust the developer to keep things current, I also know that despite that disclaimer, I will still get support requests.

That said, did you do a search on the forums for your error, using all terms? I seem to remember a fix being posted for the problem.

    And yes, that's the table.
  • Search exact phrase this: "Session initialisation failed" in yahoo or google search you will find the answer. That is just to tell you my experience about how to search answers. The search will give you this link:
http://forums.postnuke.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=12020. I aslo faced the same problem and solved it by applying directions in that topic (1st post).
