How can I get news articles to auto expire when it reaches a certian date? We host our own pn726 for our K-12 site. Staff post news and announcements and sometimes they are time sensitive, like an annoucement for volunteers, sports, etc with a deadline, we need news to expire and not show anymore on a set date. Currently I control them by setting only 5 news items to show on the index page. Thanks for the help.

Go over to http://mods.postnuke.com and do a search for the Archive module. This module allows the admin to set a certain period of time when news articles are removed from the main index page and sent to an archive area. I think this would be what you are looking for.

Archive module doesnt exactly work "Automatically" everytime admin has to do manually to archive them. Am i completely off the track? I hope i am coz i am badly looking for a module that will auto expire some news articles. This is for a school system website, i know i could use Pagesetter but i need to rss this news on other sites which Pagesetter wouldnt allow me to do. SOme please show me some direction..

    thanks,
    -Suresh

I don't believe that there is any way to do that. I read that it was going to be a feature in version 0.8, so I'm waiting to see. I've also asked for something similar, but haven't found anything. If I can get motivated, I'm considering writing a module that would allow you to specify a data and then all articles before that date would be removed. It wouldn't be automatic, but I could preform that task once a month or so to clear out anything beyond a specifed date.

something like that would work too. Where you can specify a date and a function could go and check every month and delete the news posting. Good luck in writing that module. Keep us posted,

    thanks,

It probably wouldn't be automatic, but more of a manual process. But if you did it once a month it wouldn't be too bad. I'm not going to start this module anytime soon since I'm not interested in purging any articles in the near future. The reason that this can't be done with PostNuke v0.726 is that there is not an expire date in the article tables. A new row would have to be added to the database to specify either a expiration date, or a number to indicate how many days need to pass before the article gets purged.

I set 'do not show on homepage' when I edit the article, but that takes it out of the archive when people want to read all of the news....

I'd really like a feature like above also. No reason for me to keep news from last year on the front page of my site, but I'd like to let them read it if they wanted to!
