Hi,
I've just installed PostNuke 0.726-3, on my site (web host provides PHP 4.0.6, apache 1.3.20). I've had previous experience with PhpNuke, and was impressed by how much more slick and polished PostNuke is.
I did a fresh install of PostNuke - clean directories and clean database. Installation seemed to complete normally - no error messages. Database contents all there (according to phpMyAdmin), and can log in to the admin section section of the site.
However, my problem is that I can't seem to alter some configuration settings - i.e. I can edit fields in the 'Settings' administration page, but the 'Save Changes' button doesn't work - the changes I've made aren't written back to the database. No error messages are displayed - after hittng the 'Save Changes' button I'm just taken back to the top-level administration page. When I look at the 'Settings' page again, the values are the same as always.
Oddly, this doesn't happen for all configuration pages - for example I can alter block order, add topics, module activation, etc to my hearts content.
Of course, i can hack values by hand in the DB using phpMyAdmin, but its a bit uncomfortable - I don't want to count the number of characters whenever I edit the footer :). And I'm anxious this problem isn't a manifestation of something more evil.
Could anyone give me a pointer for whats going wrong here? I've tried reinstalling a bunch of times already. And have tried the 'wizard' installer as well as populating the database by hand from the SQL dump.
Could it be something to do with the less-than-current version of PHP my web host has installed? On running the install wizard, it told me to add 'php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on' to my .htaccess - I've done this (and its being picked up - I've checked the output of phpinfo()). Is there anything other flags I need to provide to PHP?
Or is it something to do with PostNuke's swanky-fangled permissions system?
cheers & thanks in advance.
Noel

Not sure if this is the issue or not, but that's a pretty outdated, at this point, version of PHP, your host really should update it.

well, my web hosting has now upgraded PHP to the latest version - this fixed the problem.
maybe the documentation should specifiy the minimum version of PHP that PHPNuke will work with? -
While the requirements maybe should be listed, the PHP version requirements for PostNuke are fairly low considering current version. If your host was running a too old version of PHP then it's time for a new host.
