Hi,
I have a gaming website that I use PostNuke to handle all my data. but now I am getting into leasing our servers to people as they register to my paypal account then they are sent the ip addys and passwords to our servers. what I would like is to have a module setup that when they goto register they will have to pay the subscription fee before getting access to parts of the website. Is this possible? and where could I find such a module.
thank you for your help

Dream Account is a powerful subscription system. pnSubscription is good too.
Beware CMS Merchant. Check the endless amount of complaints in the PostNuke modules site before you buy CMS Merchant. I myself was cheated out of $50 for that pile of rubbish. -
Dream Account doesn't exactly integrate with PostNuke. It sort of does, but probably not like you would really want. Of course I bought it about a year ago so it may be better now, but it took me a ton of time to get a refund when I found out that their PostNuke module really isn't a module for PostNuke, it's a module for Dream Account that lets you take subscriptions for a PostNuke site.
I couldn't tell you about cmsMerchant or pnSubscription, I haven't tried either.
I asked this question once before on these forums and never got a response, but I'll ask it again just in case. I have a custom module that I wrote back when I was using PHP-Nuke that allows me to charge members for our services. I can bill them for 1 year, 2 years, or per month and it will auto bill them each month if they have the monthly subscription. The problem is the module is very much related to my business and uses a separate database to store all its information. The code was written for PHP-Nuke so it is not API compliant at all. I will not release this module to the public (not because it's proprietary, just that the code is a mess). It will cause you more problems than it is worth, and I don't have the time to answer all the questions that would come up. I am going to be rewriting it in the near future though and when I do it will be totally API compliant and there should be no problem with releasing it to the public.
So the question is this: What would your ideal subscription module do?
I'm looking for ideas that I may not have thought of myself that I could easily add to the system while it is being built rather than trying to add it as an afterthought later.

Well, what I am looking for is something that will allow me to have several levels of subscription base. I would like to have a free, a basic and a premium subscription. each level will have access to certain areas of the website. I would like to see several payment types as in paypal, credit card or debit. I would like it to be admin controlled so that a user can be removed from the subscription and his access dropped down to a free account. these are just a few things I would need it to do. any help would be great

I would suggest that you look for other ways to accomplish your goal in the short term and don't hold your breath for my module. It will get written and it is on my list of things to do. It is a long list though so it might be a while. Currently it is one of the top projects, but I can't make any guarantees on when it could be released. I need to implement a webmail client module first, so that will give you an idea of how long it may be :D
Anyone who reads this thread:
Even though it may take a while before I can have it completed, if you have suggestions for an ideal subscription module then please post them. My company wants a custom signup system and they are paying me to write it. If you have a good idea and it fits with the system that my company wants I may be able to easily add it. I'm not in the business of selling custom modules, I would just be releasing it to the PostNuke community like I did with the BSCI Permissions module.
Design suggestions are also welcome. If you don't suggest the features that you would like to see then if they aren't there when I finish the module the only person to blame is yourself. :D
Who knows, somebody else may read this thread and be able to write a module before I can and then you are still further ahead than before.
NOTE: I don't need any flames about how I should just use cmsMerchant or some other system. If there is an existing system that is open source I may consider basing a system on it, but I want a system that is totally under my control to customize, cmsMerchant and Dream Account aren't it.

Manarak,
Thanks, that will help. I haven't done anything with PayPal before so the code will come in handy. My current module only works with Authorize.net.

I have similar plane and have a list of requirements:

I think the key to a really good module will be the integration of a number of payment providers. These are standalone modules in their own right in osCommerce, so I guess you're looking at a lot of work to do them all. My own requirements are for WorldPay, so that's what I'm going to code up. I need my module available by October 2004. -
As long as this thread has been revived I should say that other projects at work have taken priority over this one and it has now been pushed way down the list, so if anyone was waiting on me you could be waiting for a very long time :)
Sorry,

I know the feeling. I'm currently experiencing "everything I seem to want to do with PN is either not available, at the bottom of somebody's to-do list or is no longer supported" with PN at the moment. It's all very frustrating. Glad I can code myself really. I just need to get my head around it all I suppose and do it all myself, but I was kind of hoping there would be modules available for most of what I wanted. That's proving not to be the case. Nobody's fault, but very frustrating :|

You've never used, or been sold cmsMerchant and this can be proven, so your comments here are not only a sheer lie but also highly unwarranted.
Would you like to ensure that your various purely malicious posts about cmsMerchant are removed from the forums or else we will be taking this matter up further.
Sincerely,

Just for the heck of it, if anyone gets around to it--include the ability to Register for the ORGANIZATION, NOT the website. And once someone signs up for a team, they get several default emails sent to them.

Hi Chris,
No flame intended but that is one of the things I like about DreamAccount. You do get the code and you can mess with it all you want and not void your warranty. On the other hand cmsMerchant is encrypted and I agree that is a very undesirable (if not incompatible) feature to try to sell within the open source venue. (Now who's going to get flamed???)
With regard to the DreamAccount module, I'm not sure I understand why a PostNuke module would be more desirable than a DA module, but, if it is, I'm sure it would be easier to build a PostNuke Module to interface with DA than to build everything from scratch. Remember, DA is not a one trick pony and, at least to me, that's more important.
A lot of PostNuke modules have their genesis outside the realm. So why should porting DreamAccount be any different? If that's what you (or anyone) wants, the code is there for you to reverse engineer so I know it can be done. Plus, if you do it, you can charge $25 for it and undercut DreamAccounts interface module by 50%! Of course you could also give it away for free!
Since eveyone is saying what they like/want, if you're going to charge for subscriptions or memberships you probably want to control password sharing.

We are still waiting for you to declare what exactly your interest is with DreamAccount and find it strange that you advocate a non-PostNuke developer who is not part of the community over cmsMerchant.
Do you have shares in DreamAccount or did you get a freebie, if not the former or latter where can we see DA running on your site? I presume you have actually used it to sell whatever?
Oh yes that brings me to something else, are you absolutely certain that DA is not in conflict with GPL? Would hate to think you are in support of anything that is, you being a proud upstanding PN member...
By the way, Open Source or not if our module allows for sufficient customization then we figure we have every right to protect our intellectual property rights seeing that mere copyright is so ineffective.
Sincerely,
Barry
