slow load speed
 Top

  • It seems that the load speed on my site seems to a lot slower when usng the PostNuke.

Are there some settings that can be adjusted to speed it up?

I am running on IIS 6.0, mySQK 4.0.18, and PHP 4.5.6.

I have AutoTheme installed and pnrender.

Could it be the theme I am using?
  • One thing to check..... If you ftp'd your PostNuke installation up to your space on the server, be sure your ftp program did not ignore the index.html files, as most of them are 0 byte files and ftp programs do that sometimes. If you do not have index.html files in your directories this could be the problem. Just something to check that I learned the hard way.

    God bless!
  • They are there.

One thing to also note is that I do not need to ftp anything because i am also running the server out of my house.

The page load times have gone from 1 second to 14-20 seconds.....

Would multiple RSS feeds cause the speed change?
  • RSS feeds can easily cause this kind of problem since your server needs to wait for the remote server to return the feed before it can serve the content out to the browser. Disable any blocks with offsite content and see if the speed improves, then re-add each block one by one until you locate the problem item.

  • Deactivating them didn't help at all. Then I deleted the rss feed blocks...and still no improvement.

The only extra modules I have installed are PNphpBB2, coppermine nuke, and cmsMerchant

  • It helps if you post a link to a site to help with debugging. Try removing each block on the site one by one. Try checking other applications on the same server. If it's your own server then perform a full set of server diagnostics. In short it's a process of elimination to find the exact cause.

  • I have been messing around trying different thems and even on the most basic theme it is still a 14 second load time. And regular webpages on the site BUT outside the portal system load in 1-3 seconds. So I know it is something with the portal system. I really like this portal system and I would like to be able solve this problem quickly..........
  • 1-3 seconds is still a slow load time if it's only a basic HTML page. Re-read my post and step through each of the suggestions. There's no simple solution to this kind of problem all you can do is logcially step through a set of diagnostic processes eliminating possibilites as you go.

  • On Windows Server 2003...is there a way to perform a quick diagnostic?
  • I've no idea since i've never used Windows Server 2003 - i'm a Novell netware person. Consult the microsoft site for diagnostic processes.

  • OK...it has been narrowed down to a Core button block. It has 7 links with gifs in the block......

It has to be something with loadng the pics......because without the pics in the box and just the links it loads fast.

So I am going to add the gifs one by one........
  • Well, with the pics it slows down the load speed by several seconds for each pic added. Is there a way to optimize this block or would is just be easier to put the pics and links in a HTML table and place it in a HTML block instead?
  • Ok.... I put the pics in a HTML table and placed it in a HTML block and the load speed stay fast (under 1 sec).

So it must be something with the Buttons block and the way it calls the pics.

Hope you got this fixed. There are so many things it could be. Any of your blocks calling information of outside sources can slow you way down, if their site is bogged down. I have had that happen from time to time also.

Yes it is fixed...I used an HTML block instead of the buttons block to display the pics and links.
