How/what files/where can I edit to change image sourcing?
 Top

  • Situation:
My site host uses CPanel and Apache, so auto-installing PN to a subdomain via Fantastico as a root folder is not possible (everything's in public_html). So, I am trying to manually install PN on a subdomain, here: http://zen.clearwithin.com

    Problem:
Everything works ok through that URL format except the image sourcing. If you'll visit my site there you'll see no images are showing up. That's because the install folder is actually domain.com/public_html/subdomain-folder, of course. I can access it through it's desired subdomain.domain.com format and everything works fine, but PN is looking for it's images also in that format, while the images files are elsewhere..

    Solution Desired:
I need to, if possible, edit the necessary files to manually direct the image-sourcing to where the images are actually installed, while still displaying and using the subdomain.domain.com format. I don't yet know PHP, so I'm lost on how to do this, which files and where in them to edit.

Can anyone here help me out? I would greatly appreciate it; I'm all out of ideas and patience tinkering unsuccessfully.

    Apache version: 1.3.29
    PHP version: 4.3.3
    PN: .726 Phoenix
  • All I need to know is how to tell PostNuke to look in another directory for it's images....

    That's it!

I've done a search and looked through FAQs - nada.

Does anyone here know how to change PN image-sourcing? Give me any clue whatsoever, please.
  • Simple, don't use Fantastico to install it, do it manually, it's not THAT hard.
  • As I mentioned in my original post, I AM manually installing it after failure with Fantastico/CPanel.

The image sourcing still just isn't working right, the images never show no matter what subdomain I try to install it into.

The problem, I gather, is my host's CPanel and Apache settings doesn't allow root folders for subdomains: it's all in public_html, subfolders.

I am installing and accessing through subdomain.domain.com but PN is looking for images there, instead of where they are actually installed (domain.com/public_html/subdomainfolder/themes/theme/images). So I get PostNuke with no images no matter where I re-locate the images folder.

I'm looking for a way to tell PN to look there in the subfolder, and re/hard-coding the image sourcing is the only thing I can think of. No one will tell me where to edit image-sourcing..
  • Well, I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can guarantee it's not related to Fantastico, CPanel or Apache as http://pndev.halbrooktech.com is on a CPanel site, and all images are being loaded correctly. At one point, it was a Fantastico install as well. Your host may have something configured oddly, but a basic CPanel install should present no problems. My only guess is that it's a theme issue. Can you post a working link to the site? The URL above is non existant.
  • I just re-installed it here: http://zen.clearwithin.com

Everything is fine when accessing through http://clearwithin.com/zen/index.php because that's where the images are relative, but images will not show when accessing through proper subdomain format.

The subdomain format is not calling the images from the right place.

For a week I have been trying to get ehostpros.com's support to resolve this but, nada.

Both PN and PHPNuke do the same thing, no images.

Here's another one I just set up using a different sequence, same results: http://test.clearwithin.com/

Would re-sourcing images work or do you think maybe it's my host's subdomain configurations?

    Thank you for your responses.
  • All is working now.

Hotlink protection was enabled, and was apparently protecting my site from itself... Weird..
