Installation, Configuration, & Upgrades  ::
creating an admin post-install

  • i am in a hell of a mess here. my old PHP-nuke site got cracked and, in the course of trying to clean it up via phpMyAdmin the entire nuke_authors table got emptied. when restarting PHP-nuke and going to admin i was prompted to create the superuser. doing so, though, did not write to the database -- it simply returned me to the blank form. none-too-happy with PHP-nuke anyway, and seeing an easy upgrade path to PostNuke, i backed up my database, moved my entire public_html elsewhere, and did an install of the current post-nuke, 0.726-3. the install went uneventfully and i got to the page which said at bottom to click here to see my PostNuke site. which i did and it was there, though obviously not configured as i wish to configure it. i clicked on administration, hoping that i would be prompted to create the admin user. i wasn't -- i was returned to index.php. in using phpMyAdmin to view the database, i see that there is no nuke_authors, leading me to suppose that this table is not used by PostNuke.

    with all that as prologue, i need to figure out some method of creating my administrative user. it can be by brute force -- okay with me. but i'm dead in the water as it is.

    thanks for your help.
  • You should have created your Admin user at the end of the install process. You must log in as that user to access the admin pages. If there's a problem with that, try flushing your browser's cache and cookies.

    i guess i didn't say it very well. i was upgrading from a PHP-nuke site, and i was never prompted to create an Admin user. i would have been delighted to do so.

    what i'm trying to do is create one now, without destroying about 6 megs of data in my mysql database.

    what i'm hoping to find out is, first, whether in fact there is an Admin user and i'm simply not finding the login prompt for it, or, if there is not, how i can now create one.
