Question about new .750RC2 version
 Top

  • I'm going to be installing the new version soon. I have one question though. This is a RC2 version. If there are any other fixes that require updates, will they be available with patches that will upgrade this version to the full .750 release? Or will we have to do a full upgrade to the full .750 version, if that makes any since.

    Thanks for the help!
  • The full version is only file changes so won't require a database upgrade. But it will only be provided as a full release rather than than changed files. The change between .726 and .750 is huge (every file has been touched). In the current days of broadband providing change files isn't really that effective in terms of time and effort.

  • Typically, it's whole new packages, but the only things being changed in 750 from 726 are file changes, the Database is the same, so updates are easy, if you didn't change any core files. For this reason it's recomended that you nto install any hacks to the code.
  • I'll try and explain a little better.

I have a .726 site that I have not released to the public. I'm going to scrap the site and do a fresh install of .750 RC2 version. My question is, if there are any updates (I'm sure there will be), will they be available via patch or will we have to install a full updated version to take it to the full .750 and not the RC version.

I do not want to release my site to the public until I have the full .750 version (or know that I can install the patches to get it there).

I had problems upgrading a site before and I do not want to go through that again. This is why I'm trying to figure this out before I start.
  • Why scrap it? Just do an upgrade to .750RC2 which is only a file copy anyway....... Simply copy the files over (barring config files, install.php and the install directory)

The full .750 will only be provided as a full release rather than changed files from .750RCx. Given the widespread use of broadband connections (particually amongst our user community) change files aren't really that efficient in terms of time and effort required.

  • I don't have to scrap the current site but I just figured I'd would. Now that I think about it, I probably wont. I'll just upgrade. I have several core hacks installed (different topic icons for each theme, edited new user email, registration screen message fix, a block title change etc) and was going to do a fresh install just to make sure everything works right.

I really don't want to release my site until the .750 version is released so I might hold off on the core hacks until it's done. Mark, I'm sure you don't want people asking when the full .750 version will be out, but do you know about how long it takes to test the RC version? I'm just trying to get some sort of timeline for me to work on all this.

    Thanks for the help!
