I've done the search and looked through over 200 emails and can't find this info.

How do I load the decompressed files to my web hste provider?

  • You'll need to ask your web host provider for sure. Usually it involves FTP use. Exactly how to do this is outside the scope of this forum, and is something everyone should have a basic understanding of before doing even static HTML Sites, much less something dynamic like PostNuke.
  • How you upload the files from your local computer after you decompress them to your website will vary, depending on what you have to work with and what your web host provider provides you with.

Some providers, like the one I use, provide a file upload feature within the admin control panel when I log in to my account. If you have that feature then you can use it.

If your hosting provider does not provide you with anything like that, then you will need some type of FTP, short for File Transfer Protocol, software on your local machine through which to perfrom the file upload.

Depending on what your local machine operating system is, you can go tohttp://www.sourceforge.net and do a search on the word filezilla This is an open source FTP program for the Windows operating system. It installs and configures easy and has a lot of nice features to it. I have used it quite a bit myself.

I currently use a product called Cute FTP Pro. It is a commercial product and does cost money. It has some features that I was in need of to do work related projects and that is why I switched.

Hope this helps get you started. If you have an operating system other than Windows, then search the Internet for FTP Programs along with your operating system name and that should get you some idea of what is available, what is open source, and what is commercial that you will have to pay for if you wish to use it. You might also want to check with your hosting provider and see if they have any FTP ability built into your account.
