Unable to create database, strange error
 Top

  • I've searched the forum, and haven't found this exact problem.

Also, there are inputs in the install that I'm not happy with that MAY be contributing to my error.

Let me preface the error with this info: I am the MySQL admin, with appropriate permissions to create and access the DB's. Site Admin SW is Ensim Pro.

The DB I created is [usaglamourgirls_com_-_Phoenix] assumed per previous install failures before I RTM'd. :p

I am certain, after RTMing and visiting Mr. Richardson's informative page (which did not address my problem directly), that my permission settings are correct for the appropriate files.

First thing that makes me go "Hmm:"

After entry of the DB hostname, UN and PW, and DB name, when I click the New Install button, only the UN and PW is retained, the hostname reverting to "localhost" and the DB name reverting only to "Phoenix."

I'm not able to correct the fields at this point, and clicking "back" and reentering gives the same results.

As I have created the DB manually already, I check the Create Database box, and click Start.

The message is "Unable to create database"

SO...I go back, confirm the entries (which I'm still not happy with, but cannot change), uncheck the Create Database box, and click Start.

The resultant message is perplexing, to say the least:

    Code

No database made.Error connecting to db
    Program: /var/www/html/usagg/install/db.php - Line N.: 45
    Database: Phoenix
Error (1044) : Access denied for user: 'usaglamour@localhost' to database 'Phoenix'

Access denied???? WHAT??? How can that be? I MUST have access priveledges, otherwise I couldn't have created the DB in the first place...

There must be something that I either don't understand, or that I've missed...

    >>Edit: I forgot to mention, install is .75-RC2

    Thank you for your time...
  • If you have manually created the database, keep the option "create database" unchecked.

    :)

  • Yes, I did try that:

  • Access denied for user, that means either your username, database name, password or database server is wrong. Check with your hosting provider for the proper information to put in there.

This is a bug in the installer script that has been fixed today. You have to restart the whole installation process or you can get the updated file here.

I'm a bit lost here. Do I "download" Revision 1.19?
And what do I save it as?

Or is the Download for PostNuke Phoenix 0.750-RC2 (.tar.gz) been updated since 5/11/04 that I can redownload it?!
Or even, is it recommended I use stable version and wait for .750 to come out of RC??

    Thanks!

Edit 1: This is for a fresh installation, not upgrade!
    Edit 2: Fixed some grammar!

Sorry for not being very descriptive here.

The file that the link I mentioed points to is a fixed install/gui.php which is only used during installation. You are encouraged to remove the install folder after the installation is done. Download the single file and replace the existing one with it.

The bug fix is for both versions, stable.726-3 and .750RC2. If your system is up and running, you don't need that file. The RC2 package has not been updated since its release, all fixes that have been applied are available in the CVS only.

And yes, for a production site you should use .726-3, the RC2 is intended for testing only.

I deleted .750RC and installed .726-3 and of course got same errors.

What if the installation doesn't complete? I'm stuck at the 60% done stage when I get

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'mnmomen_edemars@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/mnmomen/public_html/pnadodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 237

It says 'mnmomen_edemars@localhost' (Using password: YES) so I am guessing that the DB name and username are not the issue. "Is it" the same type of problem as jhoward's?

And if so, how do I use the bug fix you posted on an incomplete installation?

Thanks again for the help! :)

UPDATE: I figured it out on my own and have PostNuke running... Anyway, thanks for the help again Frank!
