Unable to create database, plus some wierd ascii chars..
 Top

  • Ok.. I'm not new at this, I've installed these type of scripts before.. Now, I have a 3rd party host, that requires me to set up PHP DB's with my username first, example: UserNa_postnuke. I don't think this should be a big deal.. anyways, the funny thing I see after i've already created the DB in mysqladmin, (and whether I import the .sql file or not) I always get the same message. Cannot create DB. The strange thing, is that for some reason, the install scripts reflects my settings in the config.ini strangely. Here's what I see during the install process:

    Code

    Database Host  208.179.130.30
    Database Username  %êÅi·©¢ËgºG
    Database Password ....
    Database Name  JerFabe_postnuke
Table Prefix (for Table Sharing)  nuke
    Database Type  mysql
    Database Table Type  MyISAM
Site is for intranet or other local (non-internet) use  [ ]

Strange how the server interprits the config.php file as ascii text (see above DB username), also the password amount of dots are reduced. I have vBulletin running on another DB and it works fine.

I created the database, and called it JerFabe_postnuke. I made a user called exactly the same, and gave it dba rights. I created a password and placed it in the config script. Everything was set up correctly, but "unable to create database", so I went to index.php and it reported a DB error. So, I started fresh, this time importing the .sql file.. same result. So, I simply deleted the actual DB, then ran the install again, this time -- naturally -- it can't connect to the DB without a username. And.. I can't create a DB without having a user setup for it. Also, I tried the two different releases of PostNuke, and I get the same ascii wierdness and no DB creation. OH.. also, if I uncheck the Create DB, I get some other lil error no matter what I change as well: Unable to make nuke_autolinks.

So.. any idea on this one? =)

    have a look:

    Thanks.

PS: i set up mambo and phpnuke the exact same way, without problem. I like PostNuke's features moch better and want to switch, i'm just stumped on this one.
  • check your config.php - if using clear text values for DB-username and -password set encoded='0'
