This is odd - has anyone else lost their PN search engine upon upgrade?
I went into an upgrade looking to solve one problem, and emerged with two:
About 48 hours ago, I upgraded a site from .71 to .726-3 because the Comments module refused to block unregistered comments for me.
Two problems:
- After an (apparently) successful upgrade, the Comments module still ignores the command to disallow comments from unregistered users.
- And the search function delivers empty results (http://LAVoice.org) - that is to say, a completely empty look-and-feel.
I tried regenerating the modules, I tried deactivating, then reactivating and regenerating them - no luck.
I checked the DB and found nothing in need of repair, at least according to my cPanel DB checker.
This sort of hit-it-with-a-hammer approach is the very limits of my wisdom. Can anyone advise on other fixes to try?

2 issues - including Search broken after .726-3 upgrade

seems to be an issue with the search block - the direct access via http://lavoice.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Search&file=index works...

Okay - just getting back to this issue after a (needed) 6-week break:
After upgrade, these problems persist:
- Search delivers empty look-and-feel. I replaced the files for the search block with freshly untarred versions, but no effect.
- Cured the comment permissions problem, but have a new comments problem: The "Reply to this" link in each post drives you to the 404 page. Could this have anything to do with my onstallation of a shorterURL module?
- Clicking any of the FAQs delivers a look-and-feel that contains only the statement, "Bad arguments for API function"
Any advice anyone out there can offer? -

Can you point me to any developer's rock-solid, clean plug-n-play shortURLs solution? I'm not a PHP coder, so couldn't debug this one, but it's about the third one I've tried installing - they all seem to cause one module or another to break.
Also - any thoughts on the search failure? -
check http://mtrad.com/SimpleURL.php for a basic understanding of short urls

Thanks, Lars. I do have at least a basic understanding of simple URLs. That's how I got them installed in the first place.
What I am hoping for is that someone can recommend an installable simple URLs solution that actually *works* since the last ones I've installed do not, and I have only the most basic structural understanding of PHP.
I've avoided using coldrolledsteel's solution (upon which several others are based) only because it appears to require that you use his theme. If this is not the case, and I can use it with my own theme, then please let me know, and I'll go to it. -
Okay - short URLs-related problems are now fixed, but dead search problem remains. (I bit the bullet and stared hard at ColdRolledSteel's solution until I could make sense of it, and got it working).
Note that the URL offered above by larsneo does work, but that using the search window delivers no results, just an empty look-and-feel. Can anyone suggest what might be failing in my Search block, which is as-downloaded direct from PN?
