is it safe to remove the following core modules?

i wanna trim down my site, but dont want to break anything

    AvantGo
    Censor
    Downloads
    Example
    Header_Footer
    Multisites
    Polls
    Quotes
    Ratings
    Referers
    Reviews
    RSS
    Sections
    Top_List
    Wiki

some of these modules, i dont even know what they do.

i guess i just want to know if they interact with other CORE modules, i only have two 3rd party modules on this site, and i know they wont interfere.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I removed a similar list from a site yesterday. The only ones I kept from your list were the header_footer and censor modules. I also removed ephemerids and FAQ mods. I've been doing more or less that for quite a while now with no side effects.

I know there are others in there that can go, to be replaced by third party mods when I need to. Even the news mod could go I think if you use PagEd, Pagesetter etc for news instead.

    Best Regards

I wouldn't remove header_footer, but otherwise you can remove all of those.

In .8, the modules you must keep and those that can be deleted are seperated so you won't have this problem ;)

I wouldn't remove the ratings module as a number of third party modules use this instead of coming up with thier own ratings system.

All this is about exactly what you want to do with the site. Some sites have no interest in rating and don't use them, some sites want to use the downloads module and have no interest in the quotes module.

As far as I understand from what Simon has said and from reading articles .8 will make this whole process of setting up the packages that best suit any partcular use easier. All that will save me and everyone else a bunch of time.

I would just create an unused_modules directory and move the modules there. Just move them from your modules directory to the new directory.

Infact, I am going to do that myself...
