upgrading from 0.762 to 0.763 - what files do I need to upload
 Top

  • I downloaded the patch to perform the upgrade and I know that I don't have to run any scripts, however I want to know what files I need to upload. I have modified some of the core files (I know BAD me!) and I was hoping to not have to overwrite my existing files. Some of the changes that come to mind are includes/blocks/user.php and includes/blocks/online.php as well as the display of some modules. Do I have to overwrite these files?

    Thanks.
  • the patch package includes all changed files since .762 (just remove install.php, upgrade.php and the /install folder) i'd suggest to use a tool like winmerge to diff any changes to your customized files if needed.

    Gripe:

The patch includes ALL changed files. It would make life much easier if it included ONLY changed files.

For example, many/most of us tinker with the style.css in the theme (or themes) we use. Lots of changes can occur over time, adding styles for DynaMenu, Pagesetter, etc. And DynaMenu involves changes to master.htm and home.htm.

The 0.762 => 0.763 patch contains identical versions of 95% or more of the style files - which overwrite all the style tweaks that we have made.

Yes, I have a log of the changes I have made.

Yes, I can do a file compare before uploading/over-writing.

But...it would seem (to me) that doing the work of sifting for changed files ONCE prior to posting the patch makes more sense than expecting hundreds or thousands of users to do that, some multiple times for multiple sites.

    Pretty please? icon_rolleyes

  • I would agree. It seems ridiculous to have to overwrite the style files.
  • We'll be building a .764 package soon so I'll try to make sure this gets looked at...

  • If it is a "patch" why do you include the install and upgrade files in it anyways?! the manual in it also is the same one for full install and neither mentions at all about "patching" nor does it list changed files as was done in previous patch! (maybe the list now is much longer)

Honestly, everytime I read there is a new version I get a headache just from thinking about the process and those changes to some core files I made.

I am not winging ... just frustrated a bit
  • It's a packaging error, .764 will not contain the files. The changelog file still lists all changed files as in the past.
