Goshh - that's a slap in the face of open source idea.

well ok - i am a nOOb - and pretty new to

    1. PostNuke
    2. this board.

I have a module up and running that I found
using a search. Its ggggggrrrreeeaat! Search ~ love it, learn it.

humm, humm, and yes i am pretty new to the entire open source-scene and open source communty. I ve heard much about open source; Some of my friends suggested me to use
open source software since i can find many helping hands if i got stuck or need some help. So what...

I also heard that in open source all is about revealing. But you both really try to hint me the google-way. I thougth that the this forum is a great community whereas many users have the incentive to voluntarily reveal their modules or ideas and innovations.

hmmm, hmmm To me, that's a slap in the face of open source idea.

Well - you, especially pndev, really try to convince me to go google-way, and you do not think about voluntarily revealing the innovation. You tell me that your module "is grrrreat" - and tell me that i have to google. Isnt it kinda of cynicism to show some users that are on the search for a module - to do a google serach...Well - is that the open source way of doing things.

I am new to the open source-movement but i am wondering if this is typical here. i cannot believe that this is the common way of doing things .... duhhhhh..

All i want is a helping hand

but wait- pnDEV - perhaps it is your typical answer: perhaps on your site there are hundred modules running and you tell each newbie that they have to google... Perhaps you want to educate & teach the postnuke-newbies to get good google-hunters.
Wait - i will have a closer look at your other postings. Perhaps they show a typical behaviour...

    - sorry for being the cynical dog, but your answer is kinda worse and not very helpful.

All i want is a helping hand - if you can not help so do not be cynical

    cheers occasione

    hello list

i just saw on the site http://pndev.com/AmaZone.html
the Module Copyright Information AmaZone module for PostNuke

    Quote

    Module's Name: AmaZone
    Module's Version: 1.0
Module's Description: AmaZone is a complete package for Amazon.com Affiliate members to advertise products sold by Amazon.com in their PostNuke powered Web sites. This software exploits the Amazon Web Services version 3.0 using XML-based protocols to integrate Amazon.com features and content into your Web site. Included in this package are blocks and administration / configuration files that allows the Web site Administrator to manage very easily the display of Amazon products. AmaZone is ported from the PHP-Nuke module NukeAmazon written by Edgardo J. Diaz (NukeAmazon Homepage: http://preciogasolina.com/). Tested on PostNuke version .726, .750 & .760.
    License: GNU/GPL
Author's Name: Edgardo J. Diaz, Dmitiri Simonov, Jean-Michel Védrine

My question is:; ís this the old version or the new one; therer are thow versions out there: The old and traditionell one - and a new one see

    http://noc.postnuke.com/frs/?group_id=401
in the respository history we can read;:

and we have the option: [Download The Nightly CVS Tree Snapshot]

at a first glance i found out the following -

on my google search ifound some thing. and now i want to clear up:

Jean Michel Vedrine on the books list.

    Hello,
As I have said, I don't currently hae any time to work on PostNuke modules collegues had the strange idea to elect me at the head of my university department !! There is a working version of PN-books .8 but it lacks lang files other than eng and fra, and the documentation is not up to date. This version was in use on my own website http://www.vedrine.net for a few months and no bug was reported so I consider it as stable enought for production. As the module has been totally rewritten it seems better to go with a brand new CVS and let the old .75 version on sourceforge for users not wanting to upgrade yet. So I created a NOC project and uploaded all the sources. You can find this project here: http://noc.postnuke.com/projects/books/ If you want to test it, you will have to download all the files from CVS. An upgrade from books .75 is supported but as the database records will be changed to support hierarchic categories (this means that all your subcategories id will change and all references to sid=xx will be repaced by cid= yy in ALL URLS, be warned) I STRONGLY ADVISE TO BACKUP YOUR SITE AND DATABASE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY INSTALL ON A LIVE SITE
!!!!!!!!! Be carefull, upgrade has only been tested on my tests sites and on my
production website so I wil prefer that you install it on a test site first/ Report any problem or bug using the NOC trackers of the project. Maybe in a few months I will be able to continue PostNuke coding (I hope so). Cheers. Jean-Michel Vedrine"

really - they are all commercial. that is not very good. The above mentioned modules
are not that expensive. The module from http://www.vedrine.net and another one:

    we have two ones:

    http://www.ttgapers.com
    http://www.vedrine.net

BTW see this posting: http://community.postnuke.com/module-Forum-viewtopic-topic-48954-start-0.htm whereas the guy from http://www.ttgapers.com
    annouces his module...

    Quote

    Features:
    pnAPI compliant
    pnRendered compliant
    .76x, .8 compliant (thus far)
    multi-locale (even Japan)
    multi-currency
XHTML 1.1 compliant (as much as possbible)
    ECS 4.0 compliant
    REST compliant

    See in action: http://www.ttgapers.com

I would like to submit this to PostNuke Modules for inclusion. Please advise on module registration etc.

Now, I am still contemplating this modules for general release. Based on feedback it will be. Last time I did not get enough feedback to warrant release and support. Hopefully now with a multi-locale offering it will be.

    hi there

just some months later on. Well what could we do?` is there no amazon module out here!? I did some more searh

    i came across the site:

    http://www.deanmarshall.co.uk/demo/apf_bridge

    he intergrates http://www.mrrat.com/aws/

APF Bridge, or Amazon Products Feed Bridge to give it its full name, is a component that adds extra functionality to web sites managed by the Joomla Open Source Content Management System.

More specifically - APF Bridge integrates a fully browseable, fully searchable Amazon store into your site. There are six 'locales' or countries available - and you can offer ALL. APF Bridge doesn't actually do this all by itself; the really clever stuff is done by an

external script APF or Amazon Products Feed by MrRat. My little offering simple 'bridges' between Joomla and APF - hence the name APF Bridge.

    watcha think about this

thanks for the reply. Great to hear that you installed the Amazone 1.1
I guess that this is the version that was released in Autumn last year.

Is it the newest version, the version that runs on http://www.vedrine.net ?

In the zip file is see: "19 January 2006", so a little earlier icon_smile

The module on Jim Vedrine's site is not amazone, it's the books module [which I used once ages ago]. If I'm not mistaken he adapted it a while ago, the amazone module works different, it actually takes the data from amazon itself thru webservices.

BTW, I didn't step up.... I just pointed out icon_smile

Edit: I took a closer look, I didn't notice 'Boutique', that is in fact the Amazone module [although it says version 1.2]

Edit2: seems noc.postnuke.com is down again: I've set up a mirror:

again thanks for the action. It is a great pleasure to see things going on. the
Amazon-webservices affiliation module is a great real world application - at least according my humble brain.

Videokid - i look forward to clear up some questions. and i am glad that you run a g reat version of a "book" or amazon module...: Not yet sure which version it is.

VideoKid, some questions regarding the release-date may come up. There are some confusions. I remember the messages of Jean Michel Vedrine on the Books-Module mailinglist last Autumn [i.e. september 2006]: There he announced the early release of a complete overhauled books module, since lack of time...:
Read what he said and see the CVS which was definitly created and added in august and september last year.... :

videoKid - can we make sure that the newest version is out - and used!?
And yes: in order to speed up the development we need many testers and an onging
discussion on features, like blocks etc. We should make the module public - write some annuncements and get the code out of the door. What do you think!?

    best regards
