Hi, I've had a search of the forums, but can't find any reference to this problem. I understand from a comment made by the developer of BSCIpermissions that it is difficult to stop news from being displayed to unregistered users.
Apart from using BSCIpermissions, how can it be achieved??? -

Well, the only problem in .764 is that the News module consists of 3 modules: Stories, Submit_News and AddStory. And they all have their own permissions - AFAIK this is changed in .8
It should work, if you set:
unregistered | stories:: | .* | none
