My permissions are fairly simple, but something isn't right, please check for me.

I've mainly noticed the problem with the "Submit News" link which denies access and advises to login even when a user is logged in. Also in Postcalendar the Add link doesn't appear to logged-in users like it should. Also the private messages block is showing N's instead of the number of read/unread messages.

I optimized the database tables and looked for signs of curruption with now luck, hope someone here can figure out the problem. Here are my permissions.

1 Admins .* .* Admin

Are these in the correct order? Do I need more/less?

Here's a screen shot of my permission table in phpMyAdmin, notice the group id is in some cases -1 (minus one) instead of 1 (one). Why is that?

You should replace the Submit News module with a clean copy, because the General Access Comment to the Users may allow them to submit...

Do you use Xanthia/pnRender cache?

P/S: Group ID = -1 means "All groups"

yes, I use a Xanthia theme with cache enabled, with these in the exclusions
mGallery2,pnMessages,Admin,pnWebLog

PnRender cache is off and compile check checkbox is checked.

I'm not sure what you mean about the Submit News module, I don't think I've altered it. I'd like any logged-in user to be able to access the submit news form, then the news would appear in "waiting content" for me to edit/approve. Isn't that the default behavior? This site has been PN since .63, now .764

D'oh! Makes perfect sense since the -1's are exactly where I have "All Groups" permissions.
