I am not finding anything through searches. Man sometimes it seems PN is so far behind the times in terms of commerce, web2.0, etc. I am trying to implement an ad system on my site. I need to track number of page impressions and click through for the ads so I can use that data to determine reasonable rates for people who want to advertise on my site. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    thanks,

    brian

You can use the built in banner module that has been in PN forever. It is pretty simple but does everything you mention. If you need something a little more substantial with more options then try installing OpenX formerly OpenAds formerly PHPAdsNew. You can insert the invocation code for banners into blocks or place it directly in to your theme.

There is one reason there's only the very simple banner module in Postnuke: Nobody is willing to build a module that not nescessarily needs to be a module while there are better solutions out there. As chance1376 said: Openx and it's predecessors are real killer apps. There's nothing they can't do. And you can use them together with PostNuke without any disadvantage over a native PostNuke module. At http://www.kiel4kiel.de or travel.sbb.ch they still use phpAdsNew and it does everything they need. One guy administers it and it's good that it's seperate from the rest of the system.

The same applies to statistics. There are great tools out there that don't have to be included into PostNuke.

I started installing openx and realized it require mysql 4.0.18 or later. ipower is my host and they use 4.0.16... It is quite annoying. Not sure what to do. I know one key difference is that with CREATE TABLE calls 4.0.18 and higher use ENGINE = syntax whereas 4.0.16 requires TYPE = . Not sure if it is realistic to just jump into openx...

    thanks,

    brian

I don't really care about mysql lifecycle plan. My host uses whatever version they use and I'll deal with that. I can get around above problem by replacing ENGINE with TYPE. But I am not drawing any conclusion wrt proceeding with openx until an openx developer advises on whether there are other aspects of openx that are 4.0.18+ specific. I have that thread going on openx forum...

You are dealing with it. Your time and money could be spent elsewhere. I am not trying to be rude, just realistic.
