Less new than before but still not understanding. Please help.

I am going to construct a simple shared web site to describe to my family and friends what my wife and I get up to in our 'Retirement Gap Decade'. I have mastered the permissions and can arrange for various sections of my family to see areas relevant to their needs and for our friends and family to see a more general view and for casual visitors to see rather little.

Now I am attempting to populate the web structure I have designed. I can create a menu like

    Home
    Our Places
    - UK
    - France
    - Switzerland
    Our Visitors
    - Joe
    - Betty

These menu sections will use index.php to manage their content. How can I get index.php to show content depending upon the menu label?

    Apologies for an idiot request

    Thank you for all help

Let me see if I unserstand you correctly. You want to add menuitems that point to specific parts of your site.
You can add the items to the menu block.
The index.php is the main entry and with a URL like index.php?module=News you point to the News module. You can then add a menuitem to point to the news as
    News | index.php?module=News
    or the shorthand notation
    News | [News]

What are the different areas for the family using? What kind of module?

    Thank you espaan.

Each menu item will point to something which is functionally identical to the start page. That is it will allow articles of similar subject to be grouped together, e.g my adult daughter and her family, with sub sections for each of the grandchildren. Some parts of this material will be restricted to family member viewing and other parts will be visible to both visitors with permission and family members. Casual visitors will see nothing.

Digging around in the documentation it seems to me that I may be a little early in my request. I have failed to find any easy solution for PN .764 but for PN .8 (which appears to be about to release a stable version) it seems that Content v2, scribite and Mediashare 3.2 will allow me to build what I want to achieve.

But I wonder how similar effects were achieved in PN .764

    Thank you again

You can restrict access to items based on the topic for example in most modules. Also in the standard News module.
Sounds to me you would like a module that suports static content with a category system and category (topic) based permissions. That is doable in pn0.8 and pn764.

There are modules for pn764 also that allow for all kinds of content like in Content for pn0.8 also. Scribite also has a version for pn764 as well here). Works ok, I use it myself with the TinyMCE editor.
    You have HTMLPages
    Pagesetter with Static Content template.
    PagEd

But if you're starting up a new site it would be wiser to start of with pn0.8 (bugfix weekend to go for the release is going on right now). A lot of new opportunities are coming (or are already there icon_smile ) for pn0.8 and the newer ones will not be compatible with pn764 (or at least not to the full).

    Thank you espaan.

That is what I have decided to do - download PN 0.8 transfer what I have learnt from 0.764 and then see if I can use Content and Scribite etc.

    Once more thank you
