So, how low can PN go?
I'm attempting a lean (as in small footprint, few block and few if any "overhead" modules - stats, sniffer, etc.).
I've got it down to 8 MB sans SVN, 17MB with.
Cleared out all modules except for Thumbnail, including a few system modules like legal, admin messages.
Cleaned out includes as much as I dared - removing all adodb for all DB's except mysql and postgresql.
Removed hundreds of images and more.
So, how much further can it go?
Within the CORE, what javascript libraries are necessary?
jscalendar and phplayers are nearly 1.5 MB (with SVN). 800 KB w/o SVN which would shave off another 10%.
Ultimate goal would be to demonstrate a website with a few singular functions utilizing the PN object core and user auth, and almost nothing else, as a standard base for very custom web development.
Anyone else tried something like that?
Any ideas on what else could be dropped without killing core functions? Themes are removed except for Extralite and a single lightweight theme.
Could even do without blocks, except that core complains if you try to uninstall it

phplayers is only used in the category admin part (AFAIK). I think John Pritchard (GSoC project on categories) wants to change that. There are much leaner solutions out there for the simple category tree.
Interesting to see how far you go

Maybe if you remove Errors, it won't complain?!
