Alright, I got past the 500 Server Error by commenting out the .htaccess lines, ignored some failure message underneath the British flag....

and now I click on the 'Upgrade' button.... but instead of running the script, my browser (Firefox) tries to OPEN the upgrade.php file icon_confused

Tried it in EI7 too, there it runs for a few seconds and then abends with a 'page not found' error.

    What to do!??

Do not comment out the .htaccess file, remove it.

Deleted .htaccess... but the problem with 'upgrade' remains.
It doesn't 'run'.... my PC wants to OPEN or SAVE it to disk, not RUN it icon_frown

Seems that your server has not configured/installed PHP...
if it's a local server, search for manuals and tutorials of how to do that, or use a preconfigured package as xampp, AppServ... if not, search another hosting or ask to the support for PHP.

    Good luck! icon_wink

Perhaps your setup needs the EXECUTE permission set on the files? so they must be MOD 755 instead of 644. Some apache / PHP configurations respect the execute permission.
