After the problems with the Upgrade, I figured I might as well try a new install.

Put up a new database, a new folder and a new sub domain and copied .8 there.

But lo and behold... the 'install.php' is a no-go as well ... Same problem as with the Upgrade.. something seems to be preventing any of these .php files to be executed.

In IE7 I get an error page after a few seconds, in FF I get a window asking me where to SAVE the script file.

I am close to giving up icon_eek

    Not alone....

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/126600

Meanwhile I found many users on the Internet with this problem, but apparently NO solution !!!

It happens in FF and in IE and it means I can't use any script file in either of them... hence no install.

I checked the PHP version on the server, it is 5.2.5.
    Could that be of influence??

    As the moderator said there:
"Talk to your host about PHP.
    They may need to add:
    AddType application/x-httpd-PHP .php
    to your httpd.conf file.
Also make sure they have enough memory allocated to PHP."

Did you try to run a phpinfo.php file
    Code
    <?php phpinfo() ?>
    to see the runtime details?

    I looked, that's all there.
I have been using this host for over 20 web sites for more than 3 years now, and only 3 weeks ago installed both a phpNuke and a PostNuke (.764) site without problems.
Either something changed in the meantime, or something is wrong with the .8 files.
So far I remain bummed, because none of the solutions people seemed to have found solve any pf MY problems icon_confused
