I have the exact same problem, but i can login and such, i just can not see an admin menu of any kind, i get bumped back to the index page and can't edit anything whatsoever. i've tried the cookie bit, my register globals is turned on in php.ini and the next one benieth that is turned on as well. i've had the same problem with this for the past week, i even un-installed it all, and reinstalled it all, all the way down to the server itself.

is my site, i do not know what i can do to fix this, im totally lost in the forums, and searching turns up the same questions with the same answers. and they don't work. it quite possibly could be something on my end being done wrong, if it is i'd sure like to know what it is, any info needed? please reply and i'll give it.

So after talking with some of my Professional Services folks, a couple of them mentioned that the 'critical' Microsoft Security Patch Q813951 fixed some kind of META REFRESH issue broken in an earlier 'patch'.
That sounds right? Doesn't it? Especially for PN's login process.

Anyhow, here's the stranger part: it seemed to work for a while, then it stopped and I was back to a hanging login! Gee Whiz!

On a side note, some conspiracy minded co-workers (I work in a J2EE shop) maintain that all of the recent 'Security Patches' from Microsoft are a result of the court-ordered re-introduction of Sun's JVM.

  • I've got the same redirection problem using both IE6 and Netscape 7. Completely new installation latest build (done yesterday) and no errors during installation.

All of the parameters mentioned in other posts have been located and checked out.

    Apache 1.3.26
    PHP 4.2.2
    MySQL 3.23.9
    PN 0.7.2.3 Pheonix

    Will try an older pnSession.php

Is that the solution? An older pnSession.php file?

    Anyone care to comment?

  • I'm having the same problem, but i'm not running my own server. I also have a little bit of information that may help. I use NameZero.com to redirect my domain to my "files"
    http://mmm.darktowerpc.com ---> http://dtpc.zygit.com
(yes mmm, it's my test location)
If I goto http://dtpc.zygit.com I can log in no problem, but if I goto http://mmm.darktowerpc.com It goes to the "wait screen" then back to the main page, NOT logged in. I'm guess this is something with cookies? if someone knows a fix , please let me know!
  • I have tried logging in with IE6.0, Crazy Browser, Opera none worked.
I tried logging in by using the IP of my webpage rather than the domain (http://www.xboxaddicts.co.uk)

I have tried all the other stuff in this thread.

This leads me to believe its either a Post Nuke problem or something thats on the servers.

Here is my server details (rackshack)
    RedHat 7.2
    Apache 1.3.22
    Sendmail 8.11.6
    Bind 9.1.0
    MySQL 3.23.36
    mod_perl 1.24
    Kernel 2.4.9-31
    EXT3 Filesystem
    PHP 4.0.6
    PERL 5.6.0-12
    OpenSSH 2.9

Does anyone from the PostNuke dev team know why any of these wouldnt work?
If they want I can host them space for free for them to work out a reason why it doesn't work.
  • I have also tried every suggestion on this board, for the record.

    My platform:

    Win2K Server SP3
    1Gig of RAM
    Dual P3 800Mhz.
    IIS 5
    PHP 4.2.3
PN .723 (.722 with the security patch)
MySQL 4.0.5 (same described behavior with v.3)

My issues are when I enable any additional center blocks, like Xpostsphpbb and Admin Announcements. The default center block news has no issues. If I stick these in a left or right blocks, I have no problems.

Note, my issues are only with the latest patched version of IE6. This behavior started about two weeks ago and continues with certain OS platforms with IE6 SP1. Ironically, the workstation I'm using right now (Win2K professional, IE6 SP1 w/all of the latest 'critical' patches) has no issues :? )

I can handle repeatable bugs, however this erratic behavior is really causing premature aging.

  • I just bought a server and had this problem.
I checked the date/time and it was totally out.
So I set the time on my server and guess what... All works fine with Internet Explorer 6.0.

If possible set the time on your servers or get the server owner to reset the time.

Also if anyone wants hosting I can do it cheaply. And it'll run Post Nuke

£25 for the year for 500Mb webspace and 3Gb transfer per month (email me if you are interested Bazajt@btopenworld.com)

Great idea. Checking the time and syncing it to an atomic clock is smart thinking.

My server was off by 316 seconds; however even after syncing the time, IE6 on some Win2K workstations still ain't workin'. :?

  • Server Sync'ed up, still didn't work. Same thing, Works for http://dtpc.zygit.com but doesn't work for http://nwn.darktowerpc.com
  • Well , I figued mine out, hope this helps. It was a Cookie Issue. By Default Windows XP Was blocking the cookies trying to be set by my site. I set it to "ALLOW ALL COOKIES FROM SITE" And wala, it worked. The new "problem" is, how do i set a privacy policy that IE ect, could read that would allow the cookies to be set to begain with.
  • Well here's another tidbit in the IE6 wackiness.

I added my site as a trusted Internet site in IE6's security area, and everything seems to be working just fine.

We'll see how long this lasts. :?

Anyhow, this is not a practical workaround for my users. I'm sure most will agree.

If the behavior changes, I'll report back.

  • Let me know if you find a 'work around" or something to this problem, same for me this is in-practical for the end-users. especially when you have to say "allow cookies" and the other person might not "Trust" your site well enough to do that. Any PN Admin care to shed some light?
  • Have any of you tried changing PN's settings from "Internet" to "Intranet"? That was the solution for this problem the first time it started comming up, that's how I always set up my PN install and I've never experianced the problem since that change.

What are the consequences of doing this (if any)? I was assuming that I should not toggle my PN site to an INtranet one lest I break it for external users.
